Happy Sunday!

To those who have kids
and those who
WORK with kids....
THANK YOU!
( Mommy is a "relative" term...you can "MOMMY" without giving birth!)
Ask my single parent, son!
So to all..THANK YOU!

I have a new packet...
I want to share with YOU!
Click on picture to go to my TPT store!
I needed a VISUAL to help ensure my kiddos were making progress.
Don't get me wrong...I assess..I assess A LOT!
But a formal assessment is done "on a schedule".
I needed MORE than observation & LESS than formal.
So out of need...comes the HFW Assessment WALL!
We have done Assessment Walls before ( as a grade level ) in the Literacy Lab.
But, I need it in my room AND accessible to ALL!
It's NO SECRET!
I need to know WHO needs more support
and who needs more challenge!
We want to celebrate ALL GOALS!
I put the bulletin board up ( this year mid-year ),
next year BEGINNING OF THE YEAR!
Brown Paper for dirt, Green paper (Twisted ) for stem
LONG enough to hold 26 leaves,
 BIG Flower CENTER (any color)
I have 26 kids...the center needs to hold 26 seeds on the inside
& 26 PETALS on the outside!
The PETALS can be ANY color you choose!
THAT'S  ALL!
We build it ALL year LONG!
I put class list on name cards.
They READ ( not SPELL ) the first 1-25 HFW list with me...
DO I HEAR Beginning of the Year ASSESSMENT??
If they pass ALL 25 ( fluently...not sounding out each phoneme )
they move their name card to the ROOTS!
(The roots of the plant are the FOUNDATION..)
I can assess in small group, whole group, individual, etc.
I can assess today, tomorrow, next week, next month.
No schedule!
Kids can SIGN UP on a chart for me to assess when
THEY are ready!
After they move to the ROOTS...
The next move is to the LEAVES..
Then to the PETALS..
Then to the SEEDS!
After they pass the first 100 WORDS...a little flower certificate...
They can work on the next lists 25 at a time!
I have included HFW 1-180.
I let them choose an INSECT they want to add to the WALL
for each list of 25 they PASS!
The competition BEGINS!
Here is some more pieces of the packet..

  9. My room is a garden themed room, and I would love this!! Also my student's have been struggling to keep up with sight words. This will give them the self motivation to want to learn. Excellent way to show data in the room!! Pam

  11. I really like having a classroom display where the kiddos have a visual to remind them of how important HFW are in their personal reading goals.
