Charts! Charts! and MORE Charts!

Happy Thursday!
I am linking up with
Becca @ Foxwell Forest
for
This week..
CHARTS!

I Love to Make Charts!
I LOVE for my KIDDOS to make charts!
( Expert at drawing...NO WAY!)
I actually made a stick "giraffe" the other day!
But...my EL students & my LOW babies...
need a little "graphic " to hold on to.
AND..
USE SMELLY MARKERS!
The BEST!
Here are two of my girls after we read about
George & Abe

( I made this chart after THEY told me what to write!)
Then they wrote a shared writing "NOVEL" with each other!
They ROCKED the writing!

Don't be afraid to let THEM make the chart & share with the class.
Remember....if they can teach it to someone else..
THEY KNOW IT! :)
Enjoy!

SHE DID IT!

Happy Teacher!
Happy DANCE!
You know those days when
it ALL comes together?
When the lesson is  "ON"!
( And of course NO ONE is there to see it..)
But, Who CARES?
Today was it!
It started out with a read aloud
with one of my FAVORITE books...

 Who doesn't LOVE
CHICKEN LITTLE?
"The SKY is FALLING, the SKY is FALLING!"
HAHAHA

SO....then my little ones wrote their own stories!
Make a connection...
We talked about the parts of the story that we liked.
We shared connections we made with the characters.
And then..
THEY WROTE!
20 minutes of NON-Stop Creative WRITING!
(And then they asked for a few minutes MORE! )
YES!
One of my littles...a very quiet second language student,
who LOVES to draw...
wrote this!
YES! SHE DID IT!
( Sniff. sniff...proud teacher!)
ENJOY! :)

She said she liked the part where the acorn fell. But she didn't want it to hit the squirrel on it's head.....so if you look carefully...the acorn will fall on the squirrel's...TAIL!
What a sweetheart!
So...I think I need to find another read aloud for tomorrow!
Who knows...my budding authors  might want to write...MORE! :)

Tricks & Tips for Teachers...Linky...2-19-15

Happy Thursday!
I'm Linking up with
Becca @ Foxwell Forest
For our THURSDAY
Tricks & Tips for Teachers
Linky!
Here is my tip for the week...
Student files...
I keep ALL of my student files in hanging files in a crate.
Keep this crate at arm's level next to your table or desk.
As you correct student work, assessments, worksheets...
FILE THEM!
Right away...don't wait for the pile to grow.."touch it once".
I don't file EVERYTHING...As a matter of fact..
I HATE TO FILE!
BUT...
for my "lower" students, my INTERVENTION kiddos,
my CHALLENGE ( both  academically & behavior )
I FILE!
I FILE WELL!
This has saved me tons of "hunting time" for that piece of paper!
Keep your crate close to where ever you correct papers.
Just correct them.. & file.
After parent meetings or progress reports or ...
REPORT CARDS...
SEND the papers HOME!
When I need authentic data...
it's at MY FINGERTIPS!
So, to help me get through the
"where did I put that?"
I LOOK IN MY FILES - First!
I wish I could say I do this 100% of the time..
Really?   NAW...Some afternoons I am filing the "pile"
BUT...give me a minute & I will have it!
Good LUCK & Happy filing!

Tricks & Tips for teachers..A Linky 2.12.15

Happy Thursday!
I am linking up with
Becca @ Foxwell Forest
for a LINKY!

My TIP...
Getting Kids to Write
Read a story to them.
Have a WHOLE class discussion about the story...
characters, problem, solution, how they could CHANGE the story,
unknown vocabulary, make connections with the book.
THEN...
(TEACHERS-------BACK AWAY!)
WHAT????
But....they will MAKE MISTAKES!
They won't write complete, descriptive sentences....
They will have sloppy handwriting!
UGH!!!!!

Yes. They WILL.

BREATHE! It's OK.
If you want kids to write. I mean write from the heart...
YOU MUST LET THEM WRITE!
Give them blank paper, markers, colored pencils and let them WRITE!
It is sloppy, messy, and unstructured...AT FIRST!
But, as with EVERYTHING else,  practice will make it better!
Add some lined paper, mini booklets, More Vocabulary words...
And with consistent discussion, modeling, more discussion , & practice
IT WILL GET BETTER!
So ...here is a little preview of our
PRACTICE!
Abraham Lincoln was our writing FOCUS...

SOOOOOO  much better than the beginning of the year!
And it will get better in the months to come!

Relax, breathe....and let them WRITE! :)
